City of Enid Announces Lydell Car Street Dedication

The City of Enid’s official Facebook page announced a street dedication for Enid’s hometown football hero: Lydell Carr.

The dedication will occur on Friday, Sept. 27 at 3:30 p.m. at 829 N Lydell Carr Dr; in conjunction with the Class of 1984 reunion kick-off.

Carr was born and raised in Enid and was a star player at Enid High School. He let the Plainsmen to history with a victory in the 1983 Class 5A State Championship. He made a 163-yard rushing performance and two touchdowns; leading against Tulsa Washington in a 14-0 sweep. Carr’s performance earned him state and national honors and he was named the state’s Player of the Year and a high school All-American.

Carr went on to become a four-year starter for the OU Sooners and became a part of the 1985 national championship team. He went on to win four Big Eight titles.

A portion of North Johnson St. was renamed to Lydell Carr Dr. in dedication to his achievements.

Enid Communications Director Derrick Silas made a statement regarding the dedication street of Lydell Carr.

“This street dedication not only celebrates his athletic achievements but also honors his character, humility, and lifelong connection to this city.”
