April 17 (Reuters) – Ford is recalling about 1.4 million F-150 trucks in the U.S. due to a software issue that may cause unexpected gear downshift, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Friday.
The regulator said Ford was aware of two “potentially” related injuries and one accident.
The recall comes after NHTSA opened an expanded safety-related investigation earlier this year into these trucks following reports of unexpected gear change.
The regulator said dealers will update the powertrain control module software to address the issue.
