President Trump Rejects Iran Strait of Hormuz Deal, Posts ‘Trump Strait’ Map

US President Donald Trump rejected an Iranian proposal for a seven-day ceasefire and a roadmap to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, while also posting a map on Truth Social labeling the strategic waterway “Trump Strait.”
“They made a proposal, but I rejected it,” President Trump told reporters outside the White House on Saturday. “They want to make a deal where they open the strait immediately because they’re losing so badly,” he added, claiming the US has “total control” over the channel.
President Trump’s Truth Social post showed the Strait of Hormuz circled on a map with the words “Trump Strait.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi outlined the seven-day proposal at the United Nations General Assembly, which was submitted through Qatari mediators. Iran offered to reopen the strait in exchange for the US ending its blockade of Iranian ports as part of a broader effort to end the ongoing Mideast conflict.
Under the proposed roadmap, hostilities, including in Lebanon, would stop for seven days. At least $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets would be released, while oil sanctions and port blockades would be lifted.
Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz by the sixth day, followed by the resumption of nuclear negotiations on the seventh day.
The Wall Street Journal reported that President Trump remained privately skeptical that Tehran would meet US demands over the longer term. He told aides that he viewed a renewed US bombing campaign against Iran as likely after the November US midterm elections, according to the Journal.
Washington intends to continue its maritime embargo and economic pressure on Tehran, with the aim of forcing Iran to accept an agreement acceptable to the US.
