Aaron Brilbeck is thrilled to be the newest member of the Freedom 96.9 Family, hosting “Freedom's First News with Aaron Brilbeck”.
Aaron started his broadcast career at just 14 years old, working as a DJ for a radio station in Syracuse, New York. That early exposure to media sparked a lifelong passion for journalism, leading him to pursue formal training in broadcast journalism at Onondaga Community College, where he earned an associate degree, and later at SUNY Potsdam, where he completed a bachelor’s degree in communications. His foundation in both radio and television storytelling positioned him to build a career focused on delivering clear, impactful news to local communities.
Aaron’s professional broadcasting career spans more than three decades across multiple markets, with a strong emphasis on reporting, anchoring, and political coverage. He worked as a reporter and anchor in Albany, New York, for both WXXA-TV and WGY Radio, before moving on to roles in Toledo, Ohio, and Des Moines, Iowa, where he continued to develop his reputation as a trusted journalist. His time at KWTV News 9 in Oklahoma City from 2015 to 2020 marked a significant chapter, where he served as a general assignment and political reporter and hosted the weekly program “Covering the Capitol,” focusing on Oklahoma politics and government. Chances are, you saw him being mauled by a tiger in “Tiger King” during the pandemic!
Aaron’s work has been recognized with numerous honors, including a National Edward R. Murrow Award, multiple regional Murrow Awards, Emmy nominations, and Associated Press awards.
In 2020, Aaron transitioned into public service as the Public Information Officer for the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office, while also serving as a deputy and member of the agency’s command staff. In this role, he continues to leverage his extensive media experience by acting as the primary liaison between law enforcement and the public, managing communications, conducting interviews, and producing digital content. His unique blend of frontline law enforcement experience and seasoned political reporting background makes him especially well-suited for his new role with Freedom 96.9.
