“I didn’t see them coming” is the most common phrase that the Enid Police Department hears from drivers after vehicle collisions; so the EPD released a statement regarding vision with tinted windows.
According to state law, it is illegal for anyone to sell, install, or operate a motor vehicle with objects placed or installed to obstruct a driver’s view of their windshield.
Transparent material that is installed on the topmost portion of the windshield is exempted as long as it doesn’t extend downward more than 5 inches and isn’t red/amber in color.
Side and back windows can have a material that has at least 25% light transmission and luminous reflectance for vehicles that were manufactured after 1996. Models manufactured prior to 1996 must have at least 10% light transmission and 25% luminous reflectance.
Outside mirrors on both sides of the vehicle should reflect at least 200 ft. to the rear of the vehicle.
Any violation of these laws is punishable by a fine of up to $500.
