Enid’s September Speakeasy First Friday will take place this Friday in Downtown Enid from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. It is an evening full of roaring 20’s themed live music, great shopping, amazing food, and activities for the family. Food Trucks will be located on the courthouse curve, as well as all downtown restaurants, pubs, and breweries. There won’t be any vendors for the event, but the local businesses will have an interest in having outside vendors inside their stores. The previous First Friday had BMX bike stunts in the middle of the road by Retro BMX and The Bike Shop.

EnidLIVE! recently had an interview with Charlet Ringwald, the assistant director at Main Street Enid, Inc; talking about the upcoming First Friday. She started off by talking about the meaning of the First Friday.

She stated, “We’re kind of wanting to celebrate the heritage that we have in downtown with our buildings. Our historical buildings were built around the 20s and 30s during the prohibition era and so we wanted to do a little something fun, a little bit of a throwback to that to celebrate the roaring 20s.”

She talked about the Speakeasy passwords for businesses to bring something new to this First Friday. Quoted by Ringwald, “There’s that they don’t have a liquor license, so they don’t sell any type of beverages like that, but they wanted to participate and wanted to be family-friendly. So they’re gonna have a place set up in the back where they’re gonna have different types of refreshments and snacks to have, but you are only able to participate if you have the passcode. We have a couple of places like that; I can’t tell you all the places ’cause I don’t want to spoil the adventure that is the secret of the Speakeasy.”

Charlet also talked about the previous First Friday’s theme. She stated, “We had a really great time with the Dogfest! We’re trying to incorporate that with the First Friday ’cause it used to be its own standalone event on Saturdays, so incorporating it with the First Friday I think brought out a lot more people.”
