The Oklahoma Historical Society and State Historic Preservation Office announced earlier today that the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church has now been registered as a historic designation.
The National Register of Historic Places lists properties significant to our past, and the church sets a perfect example. It is set in a Gothic-Revival style designed by architect Roy W. Shaw. The church served as the first Lutheran congregation in the state and was the meeting place for the organization convention of the Oklahoma District.
Being listed in the National Register of Historic Places is an honorable designation that provides financial incentives, limited protection and recognition.
