EnidLIVE! recently sat down with Roger Gosen from Kremlin-Hillsdale to talk about the upcoming annual community trivia event planned for the fall season. The trivia night will happen at the Kremlin Community Center on Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. The event will raise money for Kremlin-Hillsdale academic teams.
Gosen began by talking about what will happen during the event.
“I usually do these in the spring, but we’re gonna do this fall addition to get away from the businesses of spring…teams of up to six adults compete, $20 per person on the team, it can be people of any age, just come out and have a good time,” Gosen said. “It’s pub-style so you sit around, answer each question as a team, and work together. It’s kind of laid back, and lots of fun.”
Gosen talked more about the pub-style of trivia and how it’s better for this trivia event compared to the intimidating buzzer.
“The buzzers are intimidating to a lot of people that aren’t used to it, ya know. We do that in high school because that’s the way it needs to be. For adults, it tends to work a lot better because they don’t have to be fast…if they know stuff, they know stuff. It’s a chance for them to converse. Between questions you get a chance to talk around your table, have a good time, and converse with other teams; with a little trash talk between tables.”
Gosen finished up by talking about how far the community trivia event has come over the years.
“We started 36 years ago and did it with four teams…The winners didn’t get plaques, trophies, or medals…we got to through a pie to the face [of] the opposing team captain. I was the winning captain that first year and got to throw [a] pie in Frank Baker’s face…Now we give medals to the winning teams and is now a more fun event with [even] more participation…we only had four teams but now we’ve had nine to 15 teams….”
