At least 28 people died and 22 were injured after a bus fell into a ravine in Washuk, Balochistan on Wednesday, according to officials. Officials reported that the bus, carrying 45 to 50 passengers from Turbat to Quetta, plummeted into a ravine around 5 am following a tire burst.
Basima Assistant Commissioner Ismail Mengal stated that among the deceased were three women and three children. The injured were initially taken to Basima Civil Hospital. With nine passengers in critical condition, requests were made for the Pakistan Army to airlift four individuals to Quetta for specialized treatment. The remaining 17 injured are being cared for in local hospitals in Washuk.
Due to the remote location and poor mobile network coverage, there were delays in alerting rescue teams; however, assistance was dispatched as soon as the news was received.
Many of the deceased have not been identified yet, prompting authorities to seek help from Gwadar administration officials for identification. Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti expressed profound sorrow over the incident, extending condolences to the victims’ families. He promised that the injured would receive the best possible medical care, and hoped for their quick recovery.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also lamented the frequency of road accidents in Pakistan, attributing them to the lax enforcement of traffic laws and inadequate safety measures, especially on rugged roads.
