Vehicle Strikes Parked Car Causing Fatality Collision

A fatality collision occurred on US-270 which took the life of 49-year-old Kelly D. Nix. Kelly was parked on the side of the road in her Buick Lacrosse after running out of gas when the driver of another Buick Lacrosse failed to devote her full attention to driving, and struck Nix and her four passengers from behind.

The driver of the other Buick refused treatment, whilst her juvenile passenger sustained no injuries.

Upon collision, Kelly sustained head and trunk internal injuries and was transported to Westley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was admitted in guarded condition and passed away on November 9 at 3:11 due to her injuries sustained.

She had 4 passengers in the vehicle: one passenger sustained back and neck injuries and was transported to Woodward Hospital; a juvenile who sustained head injuries and was transported to Woodward Hospital in stable condition; and two more passengers who were not injured.

The crash was investigated by Trooper Austin Ellis #318 of the Woodward/Ellis County Detachment of Troop I. and assisted by Trooper Cody Creswell #850, LT Grant Arnold #140, Woodward EMS, Woodward Fire Department, Woodward County Sheriff’s Department, and AirEvac.
